American Bullfrog
(Rana catesbeiana)
These frogs are native to eastern North America, but have been introduced to Utah and other parts of the western United States. They may be found in any water body in the St. George area.
Bullfrogs usually remain in water all the time. They can grow to be eight inches in length. When caught they pretend they are dead, or “play possum.” Most make a peep-pitched chirp, but some make a load chirp especially when startled.
