Canyon Tree Frog
(Hyla arenicolor)
This small, well-camouflaged frog, 1-2 inches, is found on the sides of boulders or stream banks within easy jumping distance of water. Brown, cream, or olive-gray with little or no pattern. Cream to yellow on hind legs. Large toe pads. Favors intermittent or permanent streams with quiet pools. Chiefly a ground dwelling frog but occassionally climbs trees. Voice is explosive with a single pitched whirring much like a billy goat.
