Long-nosed Snake
(Rhinocheilus lecontei)
Slim, speckled snake, 20-41 inches, with black and red saddles flecked with white and black, cream belly and a long and pointed snout. Hides among rocks or underground burrows during the day. When frightened it vibrates its tail, releasing blood and feces. Commonly found on roads at night. Eats lizards, small snakes, small mammals, and birds. Kills larger animals by constriction.
