Red Spotted Toad
(Bufo punctatus)

Red-spotted ToadThis small toad is 1-3 inches long, wih pointed snout, flattened head and body.  Has round paratoid glands, one of the characteristics which distinguishes it from a frog.  The skin is light gray, olive, or reddish brown, with reddish or orange warts.  Found in desert streams, open grassland, oak woodland and rocky canyons.  Climbs rocks with ease.  Active mainly at night when breeding.  Voice is a high pitched, prolonged, clear musical trill.
