(Coleonyx variegatus)
The Western Banded Gecko is a small lizard that only measures 2-3 inches in length. It has very soft skin, slender toes, movable eyelids, and a tail that easily breaks off if handled. They are usually dark brown in color with light yellow or white cross-bands across the body. Geckos feed on beetles, crickets, insect larvae, and termites. These lizards are primarily nocturnal and are usually found under rocks or other cover. They are capable of making a faint barking sound when disturbed.
