Western Fence Lizard
(Sceloporus occidentalis)

Western Fence LizardWestern fence lizards are sometimes referred to as “blue bellies” because of the distinctive bright blue bellies the males often display during breeding season. These lizards are typically found in mid-upper elevations, usually near rocky or forested habitat where they can find lots of places for climbing and cover.

Fence lizards are insectivores, eating a variety of small bugs and spiders. This species is more commonly found on the north western edges of the Reserve, while its close relative the plateau fence lizard is found on the eastern side of the Reserve.
